The Texas Hill Country is in exceptional drought, the highest level on the drought chart. We’ve had 6.5” of rain this year with too many days of temps over 100 to count. Drought is real and it’s challenging to man and beasts alike. It’s been a year of trying to protect what little grass we have left and steep feed costs. Hay is hard to come by, so we’ve resorted to purchasing from other states at this point. Every year ranching differs from the preceding year and the year that follows. We learn something new and modify our opinions, theories and actions. We aren’t complaining, but we look forward to cooler and wetter weather. Praying for all the farmers and ranchers out there whose livelihood is tied to the land. And, most importantly, praying for rain.
